March 24th, 2008
Assumptions:
- All blocks will be 3 weeks with blocks beginning on Mondays unless that is a holiday; then the block will begin on Tuesday.
- There will be 17 3-week blocks and a holiday practicum (see below).
- Each 3-week senior block is a 3-credit course except as noted below for externship and vacation.
- One of the 3-week blocks is a vacation block (0 credits). Although students are encouraged to take the vacation block, they may opt to take a course instead of this vacation block.
- There will be no vacation between junior and senior year except for the weekend following final exams. Block 1 will begin at 8:00 a.m. on the Monday following final exams for semester 6.
- Block 17 will end at noon on the Monday prior to graduation after the new senior class begins rotations.
- Block change days will become regular working days and orientation will be streamlined or eliminated.
- Externship
§        Would span 2 3-week blocks for a 6-week experience
§        The student would be required to work with the veterinarian for 28 working days (allows a travel day at each end of externship plus weekends)
§        Would continue to be a required, 0-credit experience
- Off-campus Blocks and Adjunct Faculty Blocks
§        Would be 3-week, 3-credit experiences.Â
§        A student could apply for up to 4 off-campus and/or adjunct faculty blocks.Â
§        A combined maximum of 50 off-campus/adjunct faculty blocks could be approved for any class.
- December-January Holiday time – Holiday Practicum (10-11 days)
§        Required, 0.5 credit, Pass/Not Pass practicum for all DVM students
§        All students would be required to be on campus during part of this holiday time.Â
§        The holiday period would be divided in half and half of the students would be assigned to work in a section of the VTH the first half of the holiday time and the other half of the students would be assigned to work in the VTH the second half of the holiday time.Â
§        Students would have approximately 5-6 days of vacation in the half of the holiday period that they were not assigned to the VTH.
- The graduation requirement for 4th year will be 42.5 credits (current requirement is 42.5 credits). Could take 45.5 credits if a vacation block is not chosen.
